"I saw Paul and Art in Central Park / An Opera, a funny play / Learned how the pyramids got their start / I toured Europe in a day / Saw a doc about the Eskimos and white bears on an Arctic plain / Heard people saying 'dontcha know' / and old man baseball in PA..."
The folk busker punk revelry of "PBS late at night", by Western Pennsylvania folk-rock singer-songwriter Andrew Slater (with bassist John Jerasa and Jesse DeLorenze on drums), push pure joy buttons for anyone who has been taught life lessons ambling down Sesame Street or Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and seen countless sonic artists on Austin City Limits like Violent Femmes whom this wonderful track kind of reminds me of. Slater drops so many wonderful lyrical gems here that flash memories in your head even if you didn't experience these meteoric media events he mentions on a cathode ray TV but now on You Tube.
"I saw Paul and Art in Central Park
An Opera, a funny playLearned how the pyramids got their start
I toured Europe in a day
Saw a doc about the Eskimos and white bears on an Arctic plain
Heard people saying 'dontcha know'
and old man baseball in PA
I learned from a wiseman to be a neighbor and a friend
Now I'm watching PBS late at night
I'm just taking some more in
AND the pre-chorus and chorus simply soar in perfect sing-a-long fashion. I dig it.
"I learned from a wiseman to be a neighbor and a friend
Now I'm watching PBS late at nightI'm just taking some more in
You don't need a million dollars
Don't need a private plane
Don't need to hate what you don't know
When God loves us all the same
Don't need commercials or corporate greed
Just bunny ears and time
They been showing something useful
Since 1969
(Smiling) Bunny ears, I remember those actually. During these dark times when Dictator Trump has his target on PBS, this track seems extraordinarily relevant.
