"I see colour / I see colour / I see colour..."
The crystalline jigsaw puzzle salvational debut "I See Color" by London-based psychedelic math rock collective NAGRA is something to behold, an expanding interlocking progressive bit of beautiful psychedelia on high. From the very beginning, the sound is giddy as an ascension of sorts. One that never ceases to grow in density, in it's depth of perception, in an absolute kind of joyfulness with tightly wound musicality on all fronts. Love the arrangements, the pearly guitar maneuvers, the skipping tightly wound drumming, the very forward propulsive bass walks and the dazzling vocal performance. Oddly enough or maybe not so oddly I thought of Pulp and The Smiths and Radiohead or a magical amalgam of all three. This is an ID thought, instantaneous and not well thought out (ha) but I will lean in on it for now.
LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):
[“I See Colour” is the debut single from London-based artist NAGRA — a lush, feel-good psychedelic soundscape that melts between states of ease, excitement and ecstasy. It captures that feeling of seeing the world fresh again for the first time.
Blending shimmering guitar textures, hypnotic rhythms, and a soaring, kaleidoscopic chorus. Drawing influence from like classic 60s psych, South Indian asymmetric rhythms, and modern math rock, NAGRA introduces a bold, colourful sonic identity that’s both nostalgic and unbearably fresh.]
Truly love this sound!
