"Who is this garden being sowed for? / What fruit has fallen? / Oh you must want more! / I’ll eat of it. I’ll eat of it. I’ll eat of it..."
The existential spiral and the comely heartbreak of "Eat Of It" by Illinois bred, Pittsburgh based singer-songwriter Mirabelle Skipworth, and from her recently released debut album "When The Waters Part", is a stunning art piece not only because of the depth of storytelling but because of how potent Skipworth's lovely bloodletting is. You feel the emotional urgency as if the seeds of whatever real personal story is being expressed is blooming in real time as she is singing. Let it be known that all the songs on this album were recorded entirely live (without headphones, without any overdubs) which is remarkable. I mean, when you commit to this kind of art making, that art is special in it's raw immediacy. I love the fact that if there was anything committed to tape that may quietly irk Skipworth or anyone of the superb players / background singers of her five piece band "The Brink Of", then those stumbles are ones you live with and, most likely, learn to love. Not that there is anything here that feels awkward, it, in fact, feels perfect.
I really appreciate / love the intimacy of the song / recording and Skipworth's vocal countenance is really special in it's ability to draw you up close and make you dwell on the expression of her feelings. The acoustic guitar feels so potent too as does the male background vocal performing the harmonies. If in the right mood, open and vulnerable to my feelings and, those peeled off in the song, could have me in the fetal position on the crook of my couch and simmering in my own sadness.
And that's ok. It helps me cope with things.

LYRICS
Who is this garden being sowed for?
What fruit has fallen? Oh you must want more!
I’ll eat of it. I’ll eat of it. I’ll eat of it.
For I have been blinded, by this sovereign sight.
Will I keep on falling with every rigid bite?
I’ll eat of it. I’ll eat of it. I’ll eat of it.
I’ll eat of it. I’ll eat of it. I’ll eat of it.
But I’m dissatisfied, I’m dissatisfied.
I’m dissatisfied, I’m dissatisfied.
So tear me into two and this is how I’ll move from now on.
Break me with the bread, save me from this death. I don’t have long.
Cuz I’m dissatisfied, I’m dissatisfied.
I’m dissatisfied.
So tear me into two and this is how I’ll move from now on.
Break me with the bread, save me from this death. I don’t have long.
I don’t have long. I don’t have long.
Who is this table being set for?
For wine made from water, I guess I was expecting more.
But I’ll drink of it. I’ll drink of it. I’ll drink of it.
